At first glance, these topics may seem different. In practice, they point to the same conclusion:

The challenge is no longer just adopting AI.
The challenge is building institutional capacity to operate with clarity, governance, and resilience when the environment becomes unpredictable.

    Even before a fully structured CoE exists, create a decision nucleus with representatives from technology, data, risk, compliance, and business.

  7. Prioritize by impact and risk
    Not every use case needs to scale. Criteria should combine value, operational criticality, and regulatory or reputational exposure.

  8. Simulate a meaningful disruption
    Test scenarios such as cloud region outages, critical integration failures, misuse of GenAI, or incidents involving sensitive data.

  9. Measure resilience, not just adoption
    Track response time, governance coverage, unmanaged dependencies, and decision capability—not only pilots and user numbers.

  10. Reposition the AI CoE with the board
    The board must understand that the AI CoE is not only an innovation agenda. It is a structure for prioritization, coordination, control, and response.


A quick maturity checklist

A good way to start the conversation is to answer “yes” or “no” to the following questions:

  • Do we have a clear inventory of AI use cases in production?

  • Do we know which applications depend on a single cloud region?

  • Are there formal criteria for using external models?

  • Can we classify workloads by criticality?

  • Do we have an executive forum for urgent decisions related to AI and data?

  • Is human review defined for sensitive decisions?

  • Is there a contingency plan for critical unavailability?

  • Do we review incidents and adjust governance based on learning?

The discussion between Anthropic, OpenAI, and other labs should not be interpreted merely as a brand dispute.
